Last week I (Beauty Asylum) received exciting news from Carolina's Healthcare System.
It went a little something like this:

 "Are you available to do makeup for a celebrity client Friday?"

"Yes, I will make myself available."

"Awesome. I cannot tell you who it is but I can tell you he's a celebrity"

( ..fast forward) 

He was cool enough to snap a few pictures before he left :) Overall, it was a great day and a great experience.  For that I am thankful.

I love a good natural remedy to spruce things up.  In a beauty blurb, Queen Bee Kate Middleton had the tingling facial before her wedding day.  Interesting enough the idea behind bee venom is to increase the blood flow to create a radiant glow.  A must try outside your normal facial routine.

It's a glorious morning to wake to the sound of birds chirping and the steady hum of a lawn mower off in the distance.  Spring is in full effect.  I welcome the flowers, sunshine, and activities with wide open arms.

During my visit to Georgia I teamed up with two very talented photographers, Shauna Veasey Photography and Theary Meak Photography.  The talent and unity made for a perfect day amongst creative minds.  Not to mention the pizza and beer to follow for these southern belles.

Chanel Pro Lumiere Substitute

There's a lot of ladies (and gentlemen) that have been extremely disappointed with Chanel's decision to discontinue their cosmetic line of foundation, Pro Lumiere. The remnants of this foundation flew off the shelves, and if you're lucky it can be found on Ebay and other beauty sites for just under $200.  (Just what I've dreamed of) In desperation to find something comparable I've ventured out to Chanel's Perfection Lumiere as a mediocre substitute.

Is there a foundation similar to Chanel Pro Lumiere?
Low and behold over the weekend I realized Chanel Lift Lumiere had familiar colors to the Pro. After working with the product I am quite pleased with the dewy finish and full coverage this product offers.  Normally, I would use 30 Cendre Intensity 2.5 in Pro and I took the same color in the Lift.

Overall review: very pleased.

Pride Video: Carolina's Healthcare and Beauty Asylum Hair + Makeup

The year has started and this girl has been a busy bee since the beginning of 2013.

I have so many great things to share with you all associated with my makeup work.  Most importantly Beauty Asylum is getting a vamped look with a new logo, brochures, and business cards. Over the last year I have been working with Carolinas Healthcare System on many projects ranging from website work, portraits, and videos. In the weeks to come I will share with you all the fabulous activities I have been participating in.

The camera loves to pick up shine and drown out color with a wash of barely there makeup.  I recommend using a high def  loose powder to press into the skin with your brush.  A powder puff; like this or this is great too.  Whichever strikes your fancy.  Just remember to buy them on amazon.  Caution: be careful using the high def on chocolate skin tones where as it can give off a hint of purple. In this case use Bobbi Brown Illuminating Powder.  Even though it it has the term illuminating in the name.. it is as flat as my singing voice :))

Zombified for Halloween: The Walking Dead

Halloween is such an exciting time for makeup artistry. It gives an artist the creative freedom to transform ideas into whatever we desire.

The Products: The gory lifeless zombie: Oatmeal oats + gelatin are the way to go in order to create texture and depth for skin wounds. Go to your local Halloween or craft store and grab liquid latex (this stuff is gold) and oil based face/body makeup. If you are doing more than one person go with a large bottle of liquid latex rather than a smaller bottle.

The Process: Start with a thin layer of latex all over (this dries quickly so go in sections). The latex serves as a great glue for whatever you put on top and it doesn't rub off on clothes. Latex also gives you the appearance of dead skin. Once applied, powder all over to create the lifeless/pale look. After powder comes color. Keep in mind to shade in the areas of a skull and highlight the areas with something white or flesh tone. Colors you will need: black, brown, green, red, and flesh tone. The oil base makeup is great for mixing and layering (they don't blend once they are put over the latex; hence the layering if you mess up). 

Texturizing: If you're ambitious mix gelatin with 1/3 c water and stick it in the frig for a couple hours. Once it is solid stick it in the microwave in intervals of 5-10 sec to slowly melt to a gel consistency. Apply to create an open wound. The other option is oatmeal. Mix oats with the liquid latex and apply. This is a much easier process than the gelatin and you can create a similar look.  Once everything has dried go in with your colors of green, brown, black, and red to create such a look.

I'm not sure who loved getting zombified for Halloween more. My husband or my daughter?

Beauty Asylum is an independent makeup consulting business based out of Charlotte, North Carolina. I began working with brides while working for Bobbi Brown Cosmetics in Greenville, South Carolina. Four years of hard work retail paired with midnight photo shoots, I began slowly to develop my artist portfolio. In 2009, Beauty Asylum launched and I began blogging to document my personal makeup portfolio. Affiliated with The Cliffs, a destination wedding resort, I had the liberty to work with the best photographers and most pleasant brides.  Then, in that instance, I fell in love with the moment of pure joy.
