Kitchen Cabinet Upcycle

Last week I took on the project of refinishing our kitchen cabinets.  Lowes usually would be my first stop for home improvement projects but I have not been impressed as usual with their selection of color.  I started with looking for my perfect greige color in the living room through Pinterest and Houzz.  These sites are most helpful when you want to see a color on the wall and the finished effect.  After viewing the results of White Dove by Benjamin Moore I knew this was the color I wanted on my kitchen cabinets to brighten up the place.
My girlfriend recently renovated her kitchen and refinished the cabinets with Webster's Chalk Powder.  Pretty much you can mix this powder with any flat, eggshell, satin paint of your choice and have the finished effect of sanded cabinets. Clear wax to seal the painted piece and voila!
Such a difference, right?

Creative Endeavors

Think of my creative mind as a child with hyperactive attention defficit-  Not that I would consider it a disorder but to merely paint you a picture of the Creative Madness I have at times. On a normal day my husband can come home to 12+ unfinished tasks and 10+ intended tasks.  The order of completion entails starting the day with whichever strikes my fancy.

The phase of landscaping and house work have seen its fair share of attention this spring. The last couple months the el blogg-O has been left in a state of neglect.  Redirecting my attention to give you all an update is the idea this morning. Since I have been tackling so much (& not to overwhelm you with pictures) I will share with you the landscaping and house work I've been doing.

Once I finished with the Mahogany Flame stain I added flower baskets with some of my favorite flowers: alyssum, verbena, and snapdragons. They are all in rotation for the season so I will always have one in full bloom.  Amongst one of my daily trips to Lowes I was able to get double knockout roses from my favorite plant expert, half off! Fourteen rose bushes now frame the bottom of the deck. Not before I could install a french drain. Did I mention I have been putting in work?!

I will stop here. Tomorrow you can see Phase 2 and other tasks I have been taking on.

What do you think? Do you have a green thumb?

Happy One Year Anniversary, Bungalow!

July marks the one year anniversary of our marriage with our historic bungalow nestled in the Historic District of Uptown Charlotte. Starting off as a lonely foreclosure.. our house has begun to transform into a home.   Below you can check out a before picture we anxiously took prior to moving accompanied with the most recent decor.

Restaurants, Uptown, and parks are all within an arms reach. In the fall/winter months we have a great view of the city from our backyard.  Also, the family friendly home of the Knights Baseball Stadium is relocating to our side of town in 2014 with a new and improved stadium

What's the most important quality you'd want in your home?
