Get Your OMEGA' S
There is a lady I work with that is in her 40's and I am always starring at her skin wondering what type of 'work' she has had done. I find myself asking, "Ok, WHAT are you using? Retin-A? Peels?" It finally hit me after watching Dr. Oz talk about canned salmon and organic tilapia- Our body cannot make essential fatty-acids EFA and we constantly replenish them by food intake.
Here's how it works-
Omega 3 fatty acids maintain the structure and fluidity of the cell membrane making sure nutrients enter the cell and waste products are removed.
Positives:
1. Omega=Anti-aging
Collagen is a nutrient found in the skin that holds skin together. As we age the body produces less collagen; as a result the binding force between skin reduce and sagging/ wrinkled skin appears. EFA strengthen enzymes to promote the production of collagen from within the body; delaying the effect of aging. They boost hydration level in the skin and keep it moist; helping to maintain elasticity in the skin leaving the skin smooth and supple.
2. Prevents acne and helps with various skin disorders: eczema, psoriasis, excessive dryness, itchy skin & other allergies.
The primary reason for the appearance of acne is the sebum in hair follicles. These fats inhibit the production of a hormone called Androgen, which is responsible for monitoring the excretion of sebum. Second, the anti-inflammatory property of these fats reduces the size of acne and prevents them from reappearing.
3. Boosts Brain Power: myelin sheaths which surround the brain cells contain essential fatty acids that are directly involved in transmitting and receiving brain messages from other parts of the body. You might say these essential fatty acids keep the "switchboard" or message center- your brain- functioning at its best.
So, after work today I stopped by the Teet and picked up a few packs of tuna and salmon. I've also been taking Omega 3 Supplements but not consistently. I ordered my second bottle of Nordic Naturals Ultimate Omega. The reviews on this are great . Look forward to before and after pictures.

5 Supplements That Will Change Your Skin
Coensyme Q10- it protects the skin from oxidative stress & helps give cells the energy they need to repair themselves. Just remember to take them in the morning since it can be as stimulating as coffee.
Evening Primrose Oil- this Omega-6 fatty acid "helps your skin make ceramides to hold onto water more effectively." It even treats eczema.
Vitamin C- without this antioxidant, your body cannot make more collagen. And even thought it's available in creams & serums, it's so much better absorbed when taken daily.
Polypdium Leucotomos (found in heliocare pills) shown to protect the skin from UV damage. Also, showing it decreases redness after sun exposure!
Fish or Flaxseed Oil- Omega-3 fatty acids strengthen the skins barrier, which keeps moisture & irritants out. They also help reduce inflammation & treat conditions like eczema.

Skincare: Back to Basics
Can you believe we spend $50 billion on skin products each year?
According to Dr. OZ...Among the hundreds of ingredients in skincare only a few make a real difference. These three have the best scientific backing:
Vitamin A (retinol, retinoic acid or Retin-A, retinyl propionate, and retinaldehyde): In its various forms, vitamin A increases elastin, collagen, and the natural moisturizer hyaluronic acid in the skin. It's the only thing you can apply to repair sun damage, giving you a smoother, less wrinkled complexion.
Vitamin C Also stimulates collagen and elastin growth and helps thwart free radicals. (Vitamin C rapidly breaks down when exposed to light and oxygen, so the jar should be opaque and kept sealed.)
Vitamin E An antioxidant, Vitamin E acts to slow wrinkle production. Some research suggests it may also help protect against skin cancer. (Must be in the form of DL-alpha-tocopherol to make a difference, so read the ingredients on the label.)
Dr. Oz says,
You need to have Vitamin A, C, and E, to help prevent aging. In addition to this he recommends niacin, and he added that we need to exfoliate. Brown spots are staining the skins. The dermatologist recommended using a sunscreen to help prevent the staining. You can go to a dermatologist or a plastic surgeon to get bleaching creams, laser therapy or chemical peels to help make the brown spots disappear. The dermatologist said that the Retin is the version of Vitamin A that treats the skin. According to Dr. Oz we shed skin all the time.
It's important to have a cream containing these ingredients. Here's some recommendations: Olay Regenerist $19, Clinique Moisture In –Control $38, and Bobbi Brown Intensive Skin Supplement $60.
