Distressed Buffet from the 1930's

The BIG Reveal!!

Boy, am I proud of myself.

Annie Sloan Chalk Paint is the bomb.com. Once I started working with the color Duck Egg it began to look too icy over the dark mahogany.  I then purchased a green tint to mix with the paint by Proceed, called Phthalo Green.  I used one in a half teaspoons to create this color. Distressing came with sand paper BEFORE waxing then a couple clear coats of  "wax on, wax off".  The clear wax darkens ever so slightly taking away the white base of the paint. A much needed pop of color for the kitchen.

Next project: Kitchen Cabinets :)

A Father's Brag Book

I hope everyone had a fabulous weekend! Ours was fantabulous! On Saturday the hub and I took a night out on the town and checked out a popular spot here in Charlotte, Soul Gastrolounge.  A few drinks. Tapas. We were all smiles wrapped in our conversation outdoors.  The night was cool and the city view had a picturesque sunset.
Sunday, we made sandwiches for our family picnic in the front yard. Once we sat down JaLynn was finally able to give daddy his gift.  She has been talking about it all week. We made a Brag Book, something he can keep close to look through; show off of course.  JaLynn wrote 4 things she would do for daddy:

Aged Porch Wood

After returning from a dine in moment from one of our neighborhood restaurants; the hub pointed out scrap wood laying in a pile along side the road for garbage pick up.  As soon as he brought it to my attention I immediately vouched for carrying it back to the house.  This wood wasn't your typical lumber from Home Depot.  This is 1920's wood that has been through rain, hail, and snow which made for a perfect distressed look in our dinning room. Lowes had great brackets for $5 to mount on the wall for support.

Thank you hub for the fabulous picture bomb

DIY Project 2: Indian Garment

Our daughter JaLynn received a beautiful indian garment from the wedding we attended this past Nov. With colors of red and gold it complimented the bridesmaid dresses perfectly. It wasn't soon after the wedding she could no longer fit in the top.

Too pretty to go to waste..

Yesterday, I took a couple hours to sew up the ends and fill the neck hole with the sleeves I cut into two halves. With a little stuffing, hand stitching, and a sewing machine; I now have a beautiful decorative pillow.

Happy New Year!

This holiday season I decided to tackle a couple DIY projects as more of an innovative way to be thankful for the ones you love.

Only doing a little scrap booking in the past- I was new to the craft game; learning as I went along.

My first project developed from a pinterest pin.  Originally coming from fleemarketstyle blog- this project was beautifully done and of course inspired me to recreate.  After knowing the key ingredient (Mod Podge) I was off to Michaels.

In November, my husband was the best man at a childhood friends wedding. It was the first Sikh Indian Wedding the both of us have attended and It. Was. Amazing!  After the event we wound up bringing home two programs along with enough bangles to completely cover both of my arms compliments of my daughter.  The paper to the wedding program was absolutely fabulous.. I think you know what happens next :)
The paper was extremely thick and wasn't pliable what so ever. I was having a hard time getting it to stay down on the circular ball using the ModPodge.  I soaked it in water in hopes for the paper to give a little.  Luckily, the hubby pulled through by shaving the back side to thin the paper.  This allowed the paper to be super thin. With some placement planning, gold leafing, glitter, and Mod Podge- this sealed the deal!

I hope they enjoyed receiving them as much as I enjoyed making them :)

New House + New Memories

When we first moved into our house I was so ambitious to make our house into a home.  I was moving things around left and right like a mad woman.  Yet, some how no matter what I moved I wasn't pleased with the arrangement.  It wasn't until now when things started to fall into place.  Sometimes the best thing is to live in it for a while, develop your routine and then decide the placement of things.  Now my cute little bungalow is coming along perfectly like it should be. Like most things, everything takes time.

I have some before and after pictures to share.  I have many plans for this house in the near future because my creative wheels are always spinning. I've even drawn up floor plans and outdoor visuals!

Before

When we first moved in there was hardly any grass and all rocks from large to small.  I like to call this  project, "Project Grass".  It took us 3 weeks to remove all the rocks.  YES, three weeks!!  We also moved the large boulders to the front of our walkway.  Next spring I look forward to planting a multitude of flowers :)

Glass Door Knobs

FINALLY! We are settled in our adorable 1930's bungalow.  The past few days have been followed by a long exhale of relief.  Buying an older home has been an on going process that has consumed so much of our attention and energy.  As Auntie told me, somethings are worth the trouble.

The next several months (years) will peak an interest in every little detail that goes with the character of an 1930's house.  I plan to research the key designs and details that go along with a 1930's bungalow.  Starting with glass door knobs!

Enhance any home and bring back the charm of the 1920's with glass door knobs.  Their clean cut designs of crystal and cut glass are a sight words can’t describe.
